Task 1: Tonal Still Life
As we have been introduced to already, still life is a kind of art that depicts mostly inanimate subject matter such as common objects, plants, natural or man-made objects.
While plenty of artists use paint or other coloured mediums as the main material for their still life, sketched tonal still life artworks are the foundation of creating a still life. Without understand how to draw a composition of objects and where to place tonal values, artists would not be able to develop such detailed and intricate still life paintings. We will take a look at a variety of still life tonal drawings/ sketches. The reason why the word TONE (or tonal) is of focus for this still life task, is since within each artwork depicted below, we can see where light and dark has been used to create form and realistic objects. Tone plays a big part in art, particularly still life. Focusing on the shapes and tones of a collection of still life objects allows artwork to seem realistic and accurate show the size/ shape and forms. |
